New server to support CDN activity after shambles from former hosting company

All went live, I spent extra time into the night to get the release live, went to bed only to find that when I awoke that the entire thing was screwed. After 14 hours of the hosting company had not achieved a thing, I decided to get my own server for this, all dedicated and everything. This has of course ramped the spends on this, but was totally needed. And as the CDN is a reasonable way of getting what you want doing at a reasonable price, its a sure winner.

So now we have a faster server, more performance and a faster network. Life is good again.

It has forced me to have to do a little bit of a redesign of the site as well as the same time. Very much more clean and plain this time. soon to change I am sure

1.51 release out, bit.ly pro domains and interactive live and tweet buttons

Finally I got round to some important stuff. Namely the the addition of the bitly pro domains so that you can have your own one, and finally (again….anothing thing I should have done before), interactive share buttons for facebook and twitter. Loads more of those interactive buttons to add and much more configuration to do to make it really useful. but for now it has its place and works kinda ok in a corporate kinda way.

Version 1.50 now out. CDN, extra icon sets, more social networks, massive change in code… it’s Halloween!

We’ve just made our biggest step since releasing version 1.0 of the plugin. We have now got a CDN Subscription available for getting extra icon sets. What this means is that your not limited to the default set of icons, you can now sign up for a year subscription to the CDN and have access to 11 extra icons sets. We will be adding more as time moves on, but for now we have focused on Halloween and the icons that you might want for that. The beauty of it being on the CDN is that it will always be ultra-fast delivery to you readers, and will also increase the overall speed of your website.

As well as the extra icons sets we now have a bunch of extra social networks added, such as Ning, GetGlue, Identica, Linkagogo, Bebo, Fark, Faves, dzone, netvibes, technet, squiddo and wordpress. These were all from user requests.

Also in this edition is a major change in the way it deals with CSS and the HTML code to make things much faster and much less code in general goes to the browser. All good stuff as we all want to be faster.

As ever do let me know if you have any problems, and I do hope you love the CDN Icons as much as I have enjoyed setting it up. After all it’s what you the users asked for.

Release 1.21.5 – Added email to follow options

Due to a number of requests we’ve added the email icon to the Follow tab and Follow widget so that you can setup a link for that. Most people wanted it for their feedburner account so that they can manage their newsletter that way and not want to use the Newsletter icon.

Also re-worked the follow pop-up text, my_share_links() and the way the CSS builds for single image use.

Next release will include some of those Like buttons and stuff, as well as a new way of the CSS working to reduce the amount of CSS present. All in the aim of making things faster still.

As ever let me know if you have any problems.

WOOHOO! CSS SPRITES! it’s release 1.21 out now.

release 1.21 is all about CSS sprites, it makes things much faster, but at a cost. It means now you can’t use css sprites and you own favourite icons in place of our standard set. This is because CSS sprites come in group that is all the icons in one go. So if you use icon replacement with your own, don’t use it. However if you want to have a faster website, go for it.

release 1.20.14 – improved bookmarking, feedburner and RSS support.

More of a bug fix release than anything else. I’ve focused on improving the javascript bookmark capibilities. Now if the system (such as chrome) does not allow automatic bookmarking, the system will display the correct key code for Mac and PC to make the bookmark happen. Apart from that it’s fully working on IE and Firefox.

I’ve changed the blog rss feed method to use the get_bloginfo(‘rss_url’); rather than my own code. This is much better as it give the users of the plugin the possibilty to reset this to be an alternative source such as feedburner.

Also added is a feedburner book mark icon for you to use if you wish.

lastly I have changed the way it processes the document Title’s so that it handles HTML special characters in URL’s properly.

So mainly bug fixes and not much additions. Do let me know if you have problems

PS. If you are still getting problems with the RSS on the follow widget, all you need to do is re-save your widget and all will be back to normal.

Release 1.20.12 – WP E-Commerce support

Support for WP E-Commerce has now been setup. To make it work nicely, just exclude your Products page i.e. /products-page from having the standard settings for pages and sharing, and then in the new box for Plugin Support, select when on WP E-Commerce you want it to be. All very simple.

This is only for the standard release at the moment with the idea that I will work on a set for the Gold Cart later on when I have the time.

Hope it all works for ya
