So there was a spelling mistake to be corrected and the email item did not work correctly. Now all fixed.

release 1.18 ….Great news for Language Lovers….
Finally I have added decent language support the app, maybe not support being the best word to use but language capabilities. It’s now possible to change the share link popup text, this was a much requested feature and very much needed if you were using it in a different language…. So for all the Dutch, French and Portuguese speakers out there, you can now do more of what you want.
I’m very happy with this change and feel it put this plugin just with the feature far ahead of the others in this sector. Nobody else is offering this level of adapabilty… so this is great, you get to do what you want. I like that as I like it when I go to a website that has personality, Share and Follow allows you to put your personality into your links. Go for it.
Also fixed the shortcodes where it was not going iconOnly for some annoying reason that embarrassment forbids me to share, lest to say it was found at the most in-opportune moment. And also change completely the way the Share Icons are loaded. better use of code and really paves the way for version 2 that I seem to be always on about.
This is a very worthy release. and as ever do let me know if you have a problem…

Web Standards – Proposal for Short URL’s presented as Metadata
While creating the Share and Follow plugin I noticed that there is not a standard way of presenting the Short URL for a page inside the metadata in the head section. However I think it is very valuable information for people like google and bit.ly as it closes the loop between them and you, stopping miss-representation or wrong-full assumptions.
I propose that we use the following syntax in the head section to allow for this to happen.
<meta name="short-url" content="http://short.com/url" />
In this occasion I have used http://short.com/url as the example, this would be replaced with the correct short URL for the page that it is on. Of course this is not limited to bit.ly, it is open to all short URL providers.
This code will go into the <head> section of the HTML, and for SEO should appear below Title, Description and Keywords.
I will be implementing this in the next release of Share and Follow.
release 1.17.1 slight upgrade to email options.
Very small release that updates the email options to deal with different characters better… So now it deals properly with items such as ‘ or \ without screwing up.
Should have found this one before, but missed it. Apologies for that.
Either way you really don’t need this upgrade unless you use the email share option.
Oh I also set the default background color for the tab to be #878787 a grey color rather than bright orange.

Version 1.17 release …. we got short URL’s for twitter
Finally after a bucket load of testing with loads of themes and options I have implemented Bit.ly URL shortening to the app. Quite simple to setup, all you need is a bit.ly account where you get all the details you need given to you to put into the share and follow plugin.
What makes this so important is that it lets people use your twitter share link to greater effect, they are not as limited by the length of your URL but by new shorted 20 character URL of bit.ly, giving them much more space to type and talk about you.
It’s been a while in coming as debugging and testing this one took some time. Yet it uses some good useful technology as well. Like saving the short urls in the meta data of the post so that you can edit it if you wish in the admin page of the post or page. This way you can maybe change it later if you get a different tracking id to be able to assess trending during a period.
Also added was add trailing slash to the RSS feed item, thanks to Dougal.

New site and new release…. 1.16
1.16 was released today mainly to help with the move to this new site share-and-follow.com…. along with getting a new location, I’ve also removed over 50Kb of code by making my own code better.
It seems to me that taking steps all the way to Version 2 is what is going to happen.
Anyhow, enjoy and let me know if there are any issues

Quick release 1.15 as Version 2 is taking longer than expected
1.15 is a very quick release done to reduce overall diskspace and network usage so that your site runs quicker and the installs are faster.
On top of making things faster all round, I’ve also added Xfire and tumblr. into the mix… which makes me want to do a new release with 4sqr very soon also.
Just working on the bit.ly shortening of URL’s for twitter, so that will be in a new release this week as I need to get these things working for you guys now rather than hang around taking too long on version 2.

I have a big apology to give you today. Thanks to your beer money I have had the opportunity to get not just beer but some books instead. Why books? because I want to create Share and Follow for people on Drupal and Joomla also. So I did not get drunk, but I gave the money to Amazon. I do hope you don’t mind…..
Anyhow, the books arrive this week and after some reading I will be in a position to hammer out some extensions for those also.

Share Widget problem
Hey All,
Weird problem has appeared in the share widget for old users (pre 1.11.15) that upgrade to the latest version. If looses the widget details somewhere, and cannot be found. The simple solution is to remove the widget and re-add it.
