Due to popular demand I have change the way the follow links work to have a longer mouse-over text so that it is possible to use it in different ways.  i.e. “Join the newsletter” “join my mailing list”

this is just a stop-gap to keep you guys happy till version 2 which has both options and more in it.

Also changed the numbering to be a little easier.  1.14 seemed some much better than  a really long one.

Finally it has been released…  After days of waiting, now the SVN from wordpress works and the plugin is being released as we speak…big sigh.

Yep we now have all the most basic functionality that everyone needed, now I have to move us to version 2.  This will be a big step forward in both ease of use (yes it will get easier) and adaptability.  However I am going to have to move to CDN for images soon to support all of your needs.

What the CDN will mean is you will get the option to use many different icons sets, lots of extra text replacement colours and words and ultra-fast image delivery…  What it will mean to you as the use is a choice, do you stick to the basic options that come with the plugin, or do you pay the token price (expected to be 5euros per year for most sites) to get all sorts of added extras.

Basically I can’t keep adding images.  It’s getting out of control and that will stop me adding new languages to the sidebars, so I am forced to move there as people as asked for secondary icons sets.  At the moment we are talking 160plus icons  per pack.

Anyhow I am rambling.  Just get the download we have Portuguese and Newsletter

I am sorry to say that I have been trying to get a new release out the door now for 3 days without success.  For some reason I cannot connect to wordpress to put/post information on to the server.  this is a bit of a nightmare that I hope will be fixed soon.

This time it’s been a niggle fix than really any additions to the plugin

• added better share image URL support, where it now defaults to the sites Logo if there are no images to be found
• Added better text support to link text, as it was adding slashes to the wrong places
• and that pesky curpageurl is removed for good, great app, but causing too many issues

After re-reading through the requests for new stuff, I am going to focus on Newsletter and Feedback for the follow tab and Follow Widget.

As ever, if you get any problems at all with this release, do let me know as I will do my best to fix it.

The biggest party day in the dutch calendar is tomorrow, it’s queensday (the queens birthday) , so we will not really be able to answer anything till monday. you can try but I expect we will all be mindless and stupid or just plain hungover.

It’s been nearly 1 month since releasing Share and Follow into the wordpress plugin arena, and we could not be happier at the response from people who have downloaded it. After receiving so many messages thanks and being told how much you love this pluging, it has spurred us on develop at a faster rate than expected making maybe a few to many releases, but also adding a shed load of new functionality and options. Be that new icons or back end admin changes or the addition of share images for sharing URL’s. All of it great stuff, much of it suggested by you.

Special thanks go out to Luis, Dougal and Matt for their feedback, direction and suggestions. Also biggest thanks in the world go out to Rudolf for being the first donator, he must have seen the most change as he donated very quickly after the first release… thank you everyone for your support.

Anyhow, now I must look at making version 2 of the plugin. The idea for me for version to is to pave the way for future enhancements (yes versions 3 4 and 5 are already in the pipeline). So with all that in mind here are the overview of what will be added to the plugin in the coming weeks.

• New admin menu, with sub menus
• lots of additional icons/social networks
• localized at least 3 languages (dutch, english, french)
• possible alternative icon sets
• Ability to have many follow links to the same location, i.e. Facebook fanpage, Facebook apps page, facebook group
• Ability to set the order of the widgets, autoadded and follow tab icons.
• short URL options might also make it into this set

So it’s gonna be a busy time ahead. I hope you’ll like the changes and additions. And don’t forget, this is just the start of things.

Noticed that the theme support was not working 100% so I debgued it all and found the critter what was stopping things. Also added the last FM text replacement images to the build….

Ok I wish it was the whole plugin that has those three languages, it’s just the text replacement headings have been upgraded to include many new words in 3 different languages.

I did however update all of the .po files to have more simple settings, if you are looking for the section that deals with the share icon titles i.e. “share this post : Post title via Orkut” , then you will need to look for the items that look like this:

share this %s : %s via Orkut

The %s is a item replacement area, where the 1st %s is the word Blog or Post, the 2nd %s is the title of the post.

As well as that I’ve also added a colour picker to the follow tab border and background colours.  So that is a little easier now for those that don’t know the numbers to type in.  I have added Last.FM icon for following.  And to finish I have changed some of the admin menu to make some things a little more obvious.

1.11.12 was released on friday offering greater compatibility with other plugins and themes and also ability to change the text of the “share:” word.

The main thing to get sorted on this release was the movement of curPageURL() into my class and not having it naked in the wind to cause trouble with others that do it that way.  Oh and removed over 5K of code after reducing it down to a few lines.

Gonna maybe make some small releases next week with additional icons, but really am now starting to focus on Version 2…
